The most important and novel topics of the biomaterials field are studied in the form of discussion using the latest literature: Testing of biomaterials, biostability, mechanisms of degradation, bio-and hemocompatibility of materials, sterilization of biomedical devices, cell-biomaterial interactions, drug delivery via biodegradable vehicles, hard and soft tissue augmentation, implants, dental applications and bone cements, tissue engineering, biomedical instrumentation and imaging.


Course Outline:


  • A Review of Basic Biomaterials Concepts - 2 h
  • Testing of Biomaterials- Physical, Chemical, and Biological (in situ, in vitro, in vivo and clinical) testing methods- 2 weeks
  • Biostability, Mechanisms of Degradation and Biodegradable Materials -1 week
  • Biocompatibility and Hemocompatibility, and Routes of Improvement - 1week
  • Sterilization of Biomedical Devices - 2h
  • Tissue Engineering and Cell-Biomaterials Interactions - Cartilage, tendon, nerve guide, liver - 2 weeks
  • Drug Delivery - 1 week
  • Soft Tissue Augmentation- 1 week
  • Hard Tissue Implants and Bone Cements- 4h
  • Dental Applications-2h
  • Biomedical Instrumentation and Imaging - 1week
