Research Field: 

 

Construction of multilayer scaffolds from 2D collagen films for corneal tissue engineering. Biomedical research has increasingly moved from corneal replacement toward developing tissue engineered corneas because transplantable corneas are limited because of shortage of donor corneas and there is risk of disease transmission and rejection. Corneal stroma is directly responsible for the corneal function so studies are concentrated on constructing biodegradable corneal stroma. In this study, the aim is to construct a collagen based corneal stroma which will better mimic the natural cornea. Preparation of multilayers is a step toward achieving this goal.
