Research Activities:

 

T he Cornea is a transparent,concave structure which covers the front of the eye.It has mainly two functions;physical protection and light focusing. It has an approximate thickness of 0.5 mm and is composed of 5 layers with different functions.

In this study multiple layers of patterned collagen films and also highly porous collagen foams were used. Patterned films were arranged orthogonally mimicking the nature. Our construct served as a scaffold for epithelial cells and for keratocytes. Characterization of scaffolds (Degradation profile, mechanical properties) and Corneal cell's behaviour on them (Cell proliferation, alignment and phenotype preservation,ECM secretion) is under investigation.
